LES PARTICULARITES MORPHO-SYNTAXIQUES DU FRAN?AIS POPULAIRE IVOIRIEN ET LES APPRENANTS DU FRAN?AIS LANGUE ETRANGERE

                                                                             ABSTRACT
This paper focuses on the morphosyntactic characteristics of Ivorian popular French. The resource materials are cartoons on Ivorian popular French obtained from the internet. We are motivated by the fact that pidginised French interfers with the standard French, to the detriment
of learners of standard French. Based on the theory of vernacularisation propounded by Manessey and Wald, referenced by Antindogbé Gabriel G. and B’Eno, Belinga, we affirm that the use of Ivorian popular French deviates from the standard French by: absence of determinant, suppression of mark of negation, combination of article with possessive, omission of impersonal pronoun, transitive verb used as intransitive verb, non-respect of class category, peculiar use of adverb là, frequent use of the demonstrative ça, peculiar use of interrogative adverb. We observe that most of the sentences in Ivorian French come under what Dubois and Charlier call “les semi phrases”. That is to say that the speakers of the Ivorian French try to simplify the standard French in order to best represent the Ivorian realties. To enhance the learning of standard French, we suggest that the course “African French” be included in the university program at all levels, thatFrench students be exposed to the foundamental grammar courses which will enable them to identify the differences between the pidginised and the standard French. The merits of this study will be to draw the attention of students of French as foreign language, as well as teachers to these
particularities; this awareness will enhance the proper use of standard French language.
