ABSTRACT

This study examined how collaborative teaching can build stronger classrooms in colleges of education. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design. The population of the study consisted of students in Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, and lecturers in the School of Education and the Directorate of General Studies. The study sample comprised 150 students and 15 lecturers from the School of Education. Researchers made instruments (questionnaires) that were used: one for the students and another for lecturers. The data obtained were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The findings showed that there is a strong positive and significant relationship between collaborative teaching and students’ academic achievement and learning outcomes. Also, there is a significant relationship between collaborative teaching and lecturers' professional growth and mentorship in Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit. Recommendations were made, among others, that teachers should collaborate in order to impact positively students’ academic achievement and learning outcomes. Also, collaborative teaching should be implemented in colleges of education, whether in the departmental or general courses, as this will encourage professional growth for young lecturers while the seniors will act as mentors.
